About Roberto Vitalini

Roberto Vitalini was born in Lugano in 1971. He gained an MBA from the University of St Gallen and he specialized in Media and Communication at Saint Mary ’s College of California.
He is the founder of BASHIBA SA, a company developing innovative software solutions designed to visually communicate data changes via real-time data atmospheres. BASHIBA’s video installations empower the users to be constantly informed without cognitive effort. The flagship product, BASHIBA Panorama, allows organizations to display changes in their important data by way of a beautiful three dimensional seascape. Other applications have come from the Operahouse where the system has been employed to create spectacular natural lansdscapes that react in realtime to input from data streams and/or controllers.
This flexibility allows the Director to create the scenery "on-the-fly". Roberto Vitalini has been video set designer for the opera "L'Amour de Loin" and for "Donka - A Letter to Chekhov".
Roberto Vitalini has been member of the World Futures Studies Federation, the Foresight Network and the Club of Amsterdam.

As Thomas Nagel wrote in a famous paper, we can learn all about the brain mechanisms of a bat's sonar system without having the slightest idea of what it is like to have the sonar experiences of a bat. The human brain may be inadequate to fully understand the world and therefore itself. We can never be sure that our viewpoint is an objective viewpoint. We can only be sure that our viewpoint is definitely a very subjective viewpoint. At the same time, we should not limit ourselves to objective reality, as the subjectivity of consciousness is part of reality.

Brain Science, George Lakoff says, is overturning twenty-five centuries of Western Philosophy.
