KARAOKE SKYPE

Yet another new way to utilize Skype: have an out-and-out Karaoke session with your friends on other continents. Call it Skype-K.

This was exactly what 2 other friends and I did recently. Two of us were in Singapore, the third one was in London. We were doing the regular Skype chat to catch up on news (while also balancing checkbooks, checking email and surfing the Internet respectively).

One of us chanced upon the lyrics to the tune of a beer commercial - a song we all liked - and started humming to it in the background. Before too long, the other two were scrambling to find the words on lyrics.com to join in at the chorus!

A possible new business model for Skype: Offer Skype-K. Team up with SNOCAP (see blog below) to offer 2 versions of songs: midi-base or mp3. Charges can be made to one's Skype account ("...Girls, the next song's my treat!"). It would be a great use of ASCII text (lyrics.com) and Skype, and yet another possible revenue stream for Skype.
