ORANGE SPV :: SONY ERICSSON T300 :: DATA ROAMING
The Orange SPV is a great device,
the Sony Ericsson T300 is a good phone.
As expected, it takes some time before you get used to operate the sophisticated SPV phone... simple tasks like sending images via the infrared port become very complicated unless you are an experienced Pocket PC user. On the other hand, I have to admit that if you have a notebook and you synch all your MS Outlook data with the SPV phone you definitely have a great companion. The other great thing is the 8 MB SD memory card that comes with the phone, so that you can really carry with you good games, good music and short videos that you can watch using media player... even web surfing is a pleasant experience on the SPV phone.
Since most people use the phone for making phone calls or dropping SMS messages, I have to say that the a simpler device like the T300 would do the job. What I like about the Sony Ericsson T68i or the T300 is accessing my e-mails (pop3 and imap are supported) over GPRS when travelling. What I don't like about the T300 is the lack of a proper Calendar!
2 hours ago, I was at the Milan airport, and I've noticed big billboards promoting 3 3G services... and my feeling is.... do these guys ever take the airplane? Today, we are in the infancy of Data Roaming. Most of the times I travel to other countries I loose the GPRS service which also means no MMS. I fly to Toronto and suddenly I loose the GPRS service... but the people who live there have got GPRS!!! Even in the Netherlands, I couldn't get data services...
CHRISTMAS 2002 WHISH:
I really hope that this Christmas, major Telecom will spend some time in crystallizing international data roaming contracts to make the mobile phone the preferred device for checking e-mails when travelling (GPRS or better is a requirement).
